SinfulColors Cauldron Couture

SinfulColors Cauldron Couture

Cauldron Couture  is part of the SinfulColors 2014 Halloween Collection called Wicked Color. This collection contains some "Tricked Out Top Coats" as well as "Halloween Favorites".

Cauldron Couture has metallic green and black flakes and glitter suspended in a clear base. I first tried it over black, and since you couldn't see the black flakes and glitter, that didn't work at all! Once I saw that Night Swatcher had used a gorgeous purple as her base, I knew I had to try that as well. Since I didn't have a SinfulColors purple in my collection, I grabbed China Glaze Fancy Pants (purchased by me) since I thought it was close in color to SinfulColors Let's Talk, also from the Halloween Collection.

I think the purple base looks great under the green and black- and it makes a great Halloween mani!
.
There are 14 "boo-tiful colors" in this collection, including four topcoats and 10 Halloween favorites. They are available exclusively at Walgreens and Target stores for $1.99. Earlier this week I swatched Mystery Moonshine and Pumpkin Spice.

SinfulColors Pumpkin Spice

SinfulColors Pumpkin Spice
4 coats

shade pic
I think this shows the color of the glitter a bit better.

Pumpkin Spice is part of the SinfulColors 2014 Halloween Collection called Wicked Color. This collection contains some "Tricked Out Top Coats" as well as "Halloween Favorites". Pumpkin Spice is a re-release, as appears to be a bit different than prior versions. This version has gold and red-orange glitter in a sheer orange-pink base. Even with 4 coats, this version doesn't give full coverage, but it's still a cool look, and would work great as a glitter topper over another color too.

I plan to feature a few more shades from the collection over the next few days. Earlier this week I swatched Mystery Moonshine.

Sally Hansen Halloween 2014 Collection

Today I've got some shades from Sally Hansen that you might need if you are looking to do a Halloween-themed mani this week.

Up first are four shades in Insta-Dri Fast Dry Nail Color line. They retail for $4.99.

Pumpkin Queen
(3 coats)

Note: This is NOT matte. I think my sample bottle has the wrong label on the front of the bottle.

Although I found I needed three coats to get complete even opaque coverage, I really like this one!

OMGhost
(3 coats)

This is a great white to have in your collection, and I love the name! If you are using this as undies for a nail art mani, 2 coats would be fine, but since I wanted to wear this by itself, I did 3 coats to make sure it was perfect.

Scaredy Matte
( 2 coats)

Now, this *is* a matte, and a great one at that. 1 coat looks watery and like there is no way 2 is going to do it, but the second coat evens it out perfectly.

 Night Fright
2 coats

This is a great black cream to have in your collection. I really like the Insta-Dri formula, it really does dry super-fast.

Sally Hansen also has two Big Glitter Top Coats that retail for $5.99. I received Costume Glitters, so I gave it a try over Night Fright. (The bronzy gold glitter is called Dressed To Thrill.)

Using one of the Big Glitter Top Coats is a great way to add some pop to your mani, or even get an extra day out of a mani. I added a coat of NYC Grand Central Station as a topcoat to make sure I had a nice smooth surface.

What are you planning for your Halloween mani?

SinfulColors Mystery Moonshine

SinfulColors Mystery Moonshine
1 coat, dabbed over black

macro shot

Mystery Moonshine is part of the SinfulColors 2014 Halloween Collection called Wicked Color. This collection contains some "sinfully tricked out topcoats".

I applied Mystery Moonshine over black and loved the effect I got. It contains confetti glitter in Fall shades of purple, orange and green. I was pleased to find that the confetti glitter flattened out well and all I needed was one coat of my usual topcoat, NYC Grand Central Station, to get a nice smooth surface.

Sally Hansen Fuzzy Coat in Witch-ful Thinking

Sally Hansen Fuzzy Coat in Witch-ful Thinking
1 coat dabbed on over
Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in OMGhost (2 coats)

This swatch is just one coat of the Fuzzy Coat and it applied so easily- I just dabbed it on and really liked the coverage I got. Witch-ful Thinking contains light orange and black bar glitter suspended in a clear base. Very Halloween!

Once dry it does feel a bit bumpy, so you will need to apply a thicker topcoat, or use a coat of Gelous under your quick-dry topcoat.

Last time I used a Fuzzy Coat I used the Reesa Method of removal, and it absolutely just slid right off! I had heard the bar glitters were a bear to remove, but I had no trouble at all.

OPI Halloween Peanuts Collection

I recently purchased the mini set of all four of the shades in the Peanuts Collection, adorably titled "Little Peanuts". The set includes all four shades in the OPI Halloween 2014 Peanuts Collection as well as 10 decals that feature Peanuts comics phrases, a Snoopy and a paw print, and Charlie Brown's t-shirt squiggle. The mini set retails for $13.95.

I have swatched two of the shades over the past few weeks, but finished swatching the other two and wanted to do a wrap up post.

OPI Good Grief!
(3 coats)

Good Grief! applied nice and smoothly but did need three coats to be completely opaque.

OPI Where's My Blanket???
(1 coat dabbed over white)

I swatched Where's My Blanket? over a white from my collection because I didn't think it would swatch well over black or yellow since those colors were included in the glitter. Where's My Blanet? has several sizes of black glitter along with orange and yellow glitter as well. The colored glitter was sparse for me and I didn't get very much on my brush even though I dug around and tried to get a good variety of glitter.

Who Are You Calling Bossy?!?
2 coats

This is an amazing black. Great glossy coverage in just two coats. But to me neither of the glitters would work with this black, so I'm not sure why they included this in the set.

OPI To Beagle or Not To Beagle
(1 coat dabbed on)
over OPI Good Grief! (3 coats)

shade pic

Since the shade of Good Grief! didn't seem to be a shade of the glitter in To Beagle or Not To Beagle, I decided to use them together. I did get better application of the colored glitter than I did with the Where's My Blanket?, but I still didn't feel like I got all the colors on my brush... and again, I dug around quite a bit.

Final thoughs: Although I love the idea behind this collection, the shades they included made me scratch my head. I am so surprised they didn't include an orange called "The Great Pumpkin". Wouldn't that have been perfect? That could have been in place of the black. The two glitters were unique enough to both be in the set in my opinion- one of them would have been plenty.

Essie She's Pampered

Essie She's Pampered
2 coats

Essie She's Pampered was included in my September 2014 Glossybox. I ALWAYS get excited about nail polish in subscription boxes, and was so excited because I didn't have this shade in my collection.

She's Pampered was part of the Winter 2012 collection and retails for $8.50.

GLOSSYBOX is one of the more expensive beauty subscription services ($21 versus both Birchbox and Ipsy's $10), but the quality is *so* much better- these are high end brands! I also LOVE the beautiful, high quality boxes they send each month. They are great for drawer organizing or keeping craft products in.

GLOSSYBOX also has a great point program- if you answer their survey questions on each product after you receive it, you will receive 100 points. After you have collected 1000 points, your next box is free. So after 10 months, I will have a free box.
They also have a referral program and if you use my link to sign up, I'll receive 200 points, getting me closer to my free box! You can do the same with your friends after you sign up. During the month of October, if you sign up for a 3, 6, or 12-month subscription, you can use the promo code GBGLAM to receive a FREE deluxe sample-sized GlamGlow Youth Mud ($19 value) with any new subscription.

Maybelline Color Show Denims in Styled Out

Maybelline Color Show Denims in Styled Out
2 coats

I picked this shade up at Big Lots recently. It was just $1 and I figured it was worth a try. I really like it! Coverage was great- it was *almost* a one-coater, but I did two for complete opaque coverage. The silver shimmer in this is so pretty.

I recently purchased the mini set of all four of the shades in the Peanuts Collection, adorably titled "Little Peanuts". To Beagle or Not To Beagle is one of the two glitters included in the OPI Halloween 2014 Peanuts Collection. The polish has black bar glitter, two sizes of black hex glitter along with larger multicolored hex glitter. There's a lot going on in that bottle! I'm normally not a fan of bar glitter, but I think it works in this combo. I got good coverage by using a dabbing method. It was actually pretty smooth when it dried, and I added a coat of NYC Grand Central Station to make it more shiny.

OPI Good Grief!

from the Halloween 2014 Peanuts Collection

I recently purchased the mini set of all four of the shades in the Peanuts Collection, adorably titled "Little Peanuts". I thought I'd give the yellow crème shade a try first and I was surprised by how much I liked it! It did need three coats to be completely opaque.

I grew up watching the Peanuts specials and especially love "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown". I love that OPI did this collection!

Ciaté Skinny Dip

Ciaté Skinny Dip
3 coats

Skinny Dip was included in my April 2014 Glossybox. I ALWAYS get excited about nail polish in subscription boxes, but I set this one aside to use later in the year because I thought it was a great Fall shade that would make a perfect Halloween mani.

Skinny Dip was part of the Bottled Sunshine collection. Ciaté shades retail for $15. I just love the bottle- the bow is just adorable. I found the wand to be easy to hold and use. The polish was a bit thin, but after three coats I was pleased with the coverage.

CND Vinylux in Steel Gaze- plus wear test

CND Vinylux in Steel Gaze (2 coats)
topped with CND Vinylux Weekly Top Coat

Steel Gaze is an olive green sparkly base with gold and silver glimmer that's pretty sheer. I just used 2 coats and was pretty happy with it, but I later noticed that I probably need a third coat to get complete coverage.

But the good news is.... it wore great! Of the three shades I have tried, this is the only one where I've been pleased with the wear time.

Here's a shade pic of the fresh mani.

And here's a pic after 5 days of wear. I was really impressed with this shade! Just some tipwear, which didn't seem too apparent probably due to the glittery shade, and absolutely no chipping.

Here's some more info:

*No base coat is required, in fact, you are not supposed to use a base coat.
*I *love* that this was dry, enough to rub my nails without damage, in just 8 1/2 minutes.

*The polish applied easily onto the nail with great pigmentation.
*Even though no base coat was used, I got absolutely no staining, and it was super easy to remove using my normal method- the scrubby tub.
