NOTD: Sally Hansen Sugar Coat in Sour Apple

Sally Hansen Sugar Coat in Sour Apple
2 coats
This special effect nail polish includes rich, sweet colors that dry to a surprising matte finish with a sugary 3D effect.

Another great shade! I've think the white shade (Sugar Fix) is my favorite, but I love this one too.
I used an adhesive basecoat, two coats of color, and no topcoat and I was so impressed with the dry time- the first nail was almost dry to the touch when I was done painting the last.

I've also got to tell you that when I removed Sugar Fix, it was super easy. I just used my scrubby tub like I would with a normal non-texture polish- no foil or anything time-consuming needed.

This is an awesome polish! I've got a bit of a tan from being outside hiking on our vacation recently, and I am loving this stark white against my skin.

This deep grey has a lot of purple in it, which I love.

Here are some details from Dermelect's press release:

Featuring four new hues that complement the season’s hottest trends, these lacquers will also keep your nails healthy with Dermelect’s signature anti-aging & peptide-infused formulation designed for women who desire to grow out long and strong natural nails.

“From the fur frenzy to fierce patent leather, Dermelect’s Front Row collection is all about texture,” says Celebrity Nail Tech, Elle. “These colors almost mimic expensive luxury fabrics from this season’s runways.”

NOTD: OPI DS Chiffon

OPI DS Chiffon
2 coats

The DS shades I own hold a special place in my heart... they are just so pretty and apply almost effortlessly! DS Chiffon will soon be heading off to a nice lady who considers this her HG shade, and since it had been sitting in my stash for quite some time, I thought I'd better swatch it to make sure it was still in good shape before I sent it her way.

NOTD: Dermelect Sophisticate

Dermelect Sophisticate

Dermelect recently sent me their Fall collection, and I chose Sophisticate to try first. This was really a dream to apply- I got smooth, perfect, even coverage at 2 coats. I used NYC Grand Central Station as my topcoat and it dried so quickly. I'm looking forward to trying the other four shades soon. My kiddos started school this week, and we just returned from a week-long vacay last Saturday, so it's been a bit crazy at our house this week!

Two New OPI Designer Series Shades

In July I was lucky enough to win a giveaway prize from a new online retailer, Color4Nails.

Here is a pic of the prize I won- I could not believe how lucky I was!

L to R: OPI Matte Top Coat, OPI DS Pewter, OPI DS Lapis, a mini OPI Avojuice lotion, OPI Alcatraz... Rocks, and a mini hand sanitizer.

Alcatraz... Rocks is a Liquid Sand shade from the Fall 2013 San Francisco collection, and DS Pewter and DS Lapis are also new releases for fall. I cannot wait to try them! We just got back from a week-long vacay, and school starts tomorrow... so hopefully in a few days I will have some free time.

Here is some press release info on the new DS shades:

This fall, OPI adds DS Raw Granite, two new granite-inspired hues – DS Pewter and DS Lapis – to the Designer Series by OPI collection. Featuring a matte textured finish with mineral-like reflections, each Designer Series Raw Granite lacquer formula offers subtle sheen with a sparkle finish.

DS Pewter, a matte textured metallic with deep silver ore, will launch simultaneously with DS Lapis, a deep sapphire blue with a textured matte finish. Designer Series by OPI offers a mosaic of 11 glistening shades and a high-shine top coat, including these two new stunning hues. DS Pewter and DS Lapis can be used without DS Top Coat to achieve an alternate matte look.

“Diamond-dust gives nails the perfect touch of glamour and can instantly transform any look. These two new shades are inspired by raw granite – the diamond’s edgy cousin – and we’re excited to broaden the range of color in the Designer Series line,” said Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. “These lacquers incorporate rich pigments with brilliant shine, to create a bold yet elegant statement. DS Pewter and DS Lapis are the ideal high-fashion, festive accessory.”

Designer Series by OPI nail lacquer shades each feature OPI’s exclusive ProWide™ Brush for the ultimate in application. DS Raw Granite lacquers should be worn without top coat for a matte finish. DS Pewter and DS Lapis will be available beginning September 2013 at professional salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, jcp Salons, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, ULTA and ulta.com for $12.50 ($14.95 CAN) suggested retail for each nail lacquer.

Coral Polish Suggestions

I often get asked by local friends for polish suggestions. After they realize I paint my nails at least every other day, I guess they figure I'm pretty familiar with nail polish!

A friend is a bridesmaid in an upcoming wedding and asked what color I'd suggest to go with Tiffany Blue dresses. Coral popped into my mind and after searching for some pics showing the two colors together, I think it will look great.

My first pick that should be pretty easy to find is Essie Sunday Funday.

Essie Sunday Funday (3 coats)
from the Summer 2013 collection

Below are some other corals I have in my collection that I think would work too.

Essie Ole Caliente (2 coats)
from the Spring 2012 collection, Navigate Her

Essie Braziliant (3 coats)
from the Summer 2011 collection, Braziliant

Deborah Lippmann Girls Just Want to Have Fun (2 coats)

Revlon ColorStay in Marmalade (3 coats)

Sephora by OPI Caliente Coral (2 coats)
from 2010's Havana Nights collection

China Glaze Surfin' For Boys (2 coats)
from the 2012 Summer Neons collection

SinfulColors SinfulShine in Picante (2 coats)
Summer 2013 release

NOTD: Sally Hansen Coral Reef

Maybelline Color Show in Coral Glow
from the Spring 2013 Electric Nights collection

OPI I Eat Mainely Lobster (2 coats)
from the Fall 2011 Touring America collection

Any other corals I should add to my list?

NOTD: a england Briarwood

a england Briarwood
2 coats

Briarwood is the last shade for me to swatch in this collection. I've got to say that I'm not sure I've loved an entire collection as much as I have loved Burne-Jones Dream.

Briarwood was almost opaque in one coat, but I went ahead and did two just to make sure I had perfect coverage for my pic. I think the holo in this one is so pretty.

Details

Brand/Name: a england Briarwood

Number of coats in pic/topcoat?: 2 coats color topped with 1 coat of NYC Grand Central Station

Purchased from: Color4Nails- their new website should be up now but I ordered earlier in July by messaging them on Facebook

Collection: Briarwood is part of the Burne-Jones Dream collection, released in June 2013, along with Briar Rose/ Sleeping Beauty, Rose Bower, Sleeping Palace, and Fated Prince.

NOTD: Sally Hansen Fuzzy Coat in Tweedy

Sally Hansen Fuzzy Coat in Tweedy
over SinfulColor SinfulShine in Alfresco

This swatch is just one coat of the Fuzzy Coat and I'm pretty impressed. It applied very easily- I just dabbed it on and liked the coverage I got. I did apply a second coat on the pinkie only (far right) but decided I like one coat better.

It does feel bumpy, so you will need to apply a thicker topcoat, or use a coat of Gelous. I first just applied one coat of NYC GCS, but since it was still bumpy, I added a coat of Gelous and another coat of NYC GCS and it feels nice and smooth.

Update: When I went to remove this I used the Reesa Method, and it absolutely just slid right off! I had heard the bar glitters were a bear to remove, but I had no trouble at all!
