Essie Social-Lights

Essie Social-Lights
from the Winter 2017 Collection

I had some Kohl's Cash burning a hole in my pocket so I dashed in and picked this one up. I LOVE it! So so pretty!

NOTD: Essie Éclair My Love

Essie Éclair My Love
2 coats
from the Summer 2017 Collection

per Essie: Declare your undying amour with this light, bright heart-pulsing shade of red candy passion.

I've seen others call this close to a one-coat wonder, but not for me. I found the first coat to be very streaky, but the second coat evened it out quite nicely. Such a bright, fun summer shade!

Essie Too Taboo topped with HOLO

Essie Too Taboo
2 coats over a base of Essie Blanc
topped with Cover Girl City Lights

Last year I bought the mini set of Essie Neons from 2014, and I decided to give it a try last week.  I first did a base of the Blanc that was included in the set, and it was no bueno. Very patchy and uneven, but I went ahead and pushed forward with the color. I did two coats of Too Taboo and followed with a coat of NYC Grand Central Station.

The resulting mani was just.... lacking. I had hoped that the color would balance out the uneven white, but it didn't. It just gave me uneven color.

So I did what I always do with a failed mani, I topped it with holo goodness. Much better!

Essie Your Hut or Mine

Essie Your Hut or Mine
2 coats
from the 2011 Fair Game Resort Collection

Your Hut or Mine is really pretty- it's a dusty dark pink that has a really pretty shimmer in the sun. You can see it a lot better if you enlarge the pic above. Application was great- I got opaque even coverage in two coats.

Essie Meet Me at the Altar

Essie Meet Me at the Altar
3 coats
from the 2013 Essie Bridal Collection

Meet Me at the Altar is a pastel lilac with a silver shimmer that is just barely noticeable in the sun, very similar to the shimmer in No Baggage Please. The silver shimmer is definitely more noticeable in the bottle. It too needs at least 3 coats, and probably 4 if you want complete opaque coverage.

Essie No Baggage Please

Essie No Baggage Please
3 coats
from the 2013 Essie Bridal Collection

No Baggage Please is a pastel baby pink with a silver shimmer that just barely noticeable in the sun. The silver shimmer is definitely more noticeable in the bottle. It needs at least 3 coats, and probably 4 if you want complete opaque coverage. The pic above is just 3 coats because I get sort of stabby if I have to do 4. :-)

Essie My Better Half

Essie My Better Half
2 coats
from the 2013 Essie Bridal Collection

My Better Half is so pretty and was great color for my Easter mani! Beauty Junkies Unite described it as "medium peony pink base with slight peony pearl" and I think that's a great description. The first coat was somewhat sheer, but a second coat evened it out perfectly and made it opaque.

Essie Using My Maiden Name

Essie Using My Maiden Name
2 coats
from the 2013 Essie Bridal Collection

Using My Maiden Name is GORGEOUS and my nails look like little Easter eggs! I would describe it as periwinkle with a pink microshimmer. The first coat was somewhat sheer, but a second coat evened it out perfectly and made it opaque.

Essie Sunset Sneaks

Essie Sunset Sneaks
2 coats
from the Summer 2015 collection

A few weeks ago I picked up Essie Sunset Sneaks at TJ Maxx and since we've been having some awesome Spring weather, I thought I'd give it a try. Isn't it gorgeous? It's a geranium creme and I got perfect even coverage in two coats.

I actually loved this so much I took it on Spring Break and did used it for a second mani!

Essie Starry Starry Night

Essie Starry Starry Night
2 coats

Essie's recently released Retro Revival collection of course had to contain the must-lusted-after Starry Starry Night. It's been on my wish list for years. Although the new version is not the same as the original, it's still pretty gorgeous and I'm glad to add it to my collection.

I did have some application issues and had to add about 15 drops of thinner to my bottle. Without thinner, it was very gloopy. My first mani with it looked terrible so these pics show my second try.

Essie Da Bush

Essie Da Bush
3 coats
from the 2011 Resort Collection (Fair Game Collection)

This is one of those shades that I totally put off using, thinking I just wouldn't care for it, and would you look at that? It actually looks pretty great on!

I did need 3 coats to get opaque coverage, but it applied nicely and dried well too when topped with NYC Grand Central Station. I feel kind silly for not wearing it for so long!

Essie Your Hut Or Mine

 Essie Your Hut Or Mine
2 coats
from the 2011 Resort Collection (Fair Game Collection)

The first time I tried this shade I wasn't a big fan, but maybe the sun wasn't out then? Because LOOK! There's a really pretty hidden shimmer that comes alive in the sun. So gorgeous!

Essie Tuck It In My Tux

Essie Tuck It In My Tux
3 coats
from the Winter 2014 Collection

Tuck It In My Tux is a creamy, pink-leaning creamy white that gave me a bit of a case of Lobster Hands. If you look closely, you'll see that even at 3 coats, it's still a bit uneven. Not a favorite for me.

Essie Jump In My Jumpsuit

Essie Jump In My Jumpsuit
2 coats
from the Winter 2014 Collection

Jump In My Jumpsuit was a shade my husband really liked after seeing my strange green crackle mani the other day- he was not a fan of that one! Ha! He really likes what he considers "normal" shades, and Jump In My Jumpsuit would definitely be on that list. Two coats gave perfect coverage.
