Swatches: Sephora + Pantone Universe Mini Graphic Effect Lacquers- Emerald

Retail price $18 (currently out of stock)

The OCD collector in me ordered this year's Sephora + Pantone Universe set since I already had last year's Tangerine Tango set in my collection.

Last year's set was priced at $24 and included a matte shade. I think removing the matte and lowering the price was a good move- there are so many matte topcoats on the market these days.

Last year's set included Glitter, Creme, Matte and Shimmer.

This year's set includes Metallic, Shimmer and Glitter.

Emerald Metallic
2 coats

Interesting choice of name... this is *not* what I would call metallic. It includes small holo glitter, and is so pretty in the sun. In some lights, it looks like silver glitter, but when light hits it just right, it comes alive.

Emerald Shimmer
(2 coats)

This was the problem child of the set. Let me show you what I mean on the macro shot below.

Emerald Shimmed (macro shot)

See those black dots? That's unmixed pigment. All the shaking in the world did not mix this up. At times, the pigment would spread as you were apply the polish, and you could almost blend it in. But other times, like you can see with the big black dot above, it wouldn't mix at all and would just sit on top.

It's a shame because this could be a really pretty shade.

Emerald Glitter
3 coats

This is emerald glitter suspended in a clear base tinted with green. I got decent coverage with each coat, and needed 3 coats. The glitter was suspended well and was easy to apply- I did not need to turn the bottle upside down or do much shaking. However, clear base glitters tend to chip like crazy on me, so I imagine this might work better over a colored base for me than on it's own. I did not test wear time.

Final thoughts: Although this is a nice set, the unmixed pigments in the Shimmer shade are a big disappointment. That shade is pretty much unwearable for me since I am a perfectionist when it comes to my nail color.

Anyone else had this problem?

Swatches: Sephora Tangerine Tango set

Yesterday was a beautiful day so I took the opportunity to do some swatches of Sephora's Color of the Year Nail Enamel Set ($24). These Tangerine Tango shades are gorgeous, and I especially think they suit warm skin tones like mine.

Left to right: Glitter, Creme, Matte, Shimmer (all three coats)

I think the Glitter shade might work well as a topper too, so I think I may try one coat over the Cream shade to see how that looks next. Hope you are having a great day and nice weather where you are!

NOTD: Sephora + Pantone Universe Tangerine Tango Creme

Sephora + Pantone Universe Tangerine Tango Creme
two coats

Today I am wearing the creme shade from Sephora's Color of the Year Nail Enamel Set ($24).

And I think it's gorgeous! I have always loved colors like this on us warm-skinned gals and was excited to see this shade named as Color of the Year. There is a bit of visible nail line, but I wasn't bothered by it enough to do a third coat (check in: Lazy Party of One!).

Hopefully the sun will stick around this week and I can get swatches of the other shades.

NOTD: Revlon Colorstay in Marmalade

Revlon ColorStay in Marmalade

3 coats

Last month I picked up a red shade from the new Revlon ColorStay collection. This new collection has the tagline "Gel-Like shine and up to 11 days of shatterproof color*." The asterisk below that line states: "*When worn with ColorStay™ base & top coats".

I was very curious about this polish, so I picked up the base and top coats as well.

I'm have to admit that I'm so addicted to Seche Vite, I'm hesitant to try anything else. So this little group of three bottles has set in my kitchen cabinet all month. But this week CVS has a fabulous sale on all their Revlon polishes, so I ran up there last night and picked up this oh-so-springy Marmalade shade. I basically got paid to take this out of the store.

Here's how: All Revlon nail polish is $4.79. You will get $3 Extra Care Bucks to use on your next purchase. I used a $3/1 Revlon CVS store coupon that printed from their Magic Coupon Machine when I went in the store and paid $1.79, and got back $3 ECB. Hell of a deal.

So I decided that free polish = a sign to give it a try. I painted my nails, using their base and top coats, and went to bed about an hour later.

And woke up to terrible sheet marks! So I added a coat of clear polish and topped it with Seche Vite this morning. I guess I will be using Seche Vite after their top coat from now on! But I do love this shade and am so so so ready for spring!

Speaking of spring, I spotted this on Sephora and am dying for this set of nail polish in Pantone's color for 2012, Tangerine Tango. It's not available for purchase yet, but I will certainly stalking it.
