NYC Show Time Lip Balm swatches

NYC Show Time Lip Balm
Left: In Vogue Red
Right: Modern Coral
In summer my lips always tend to get a bit chapped- probably from all the time we spend outside. I have been trying these two shades out for a few weeks, and these lips balms have really helped my lips feel so much better! Even after the color wears off my lips still feel hydrated. I do wish they had an SPF in them, but for times when you are not out in the sun, these are a perfect wash of color.

They are quite sheer and give just a hint of color. They do have a light cherry scent, and the smell reminded me of some of the balms I wore as a teenager- fun!

NYC Midnight Beauty Collection

Today I've got swatches of three of the four shades in NYC's Midnight Beauty collection.  I've long been a fan of NYC's In a New Your Minute line, in particular using Grand Central Station as a top coat. It's been my HG for a few years now and besides how well it performs as a quick dry top coat, my favorite thing about it is the price- just $1.99 for every shade in the line!

All swatches are shown without top coat.

NYC I am not affRED
(2 coats)

I am not affRED is a deep wine. It's a bit thin and prone to running into your cuticles. It's also a bit hard to clean up if it gets in your cuticles (see my middle finger), but with a steady hand, it makes a pretty fall mani.

NYC Rock Muse (1 coat)
over I am not affRED

Rock Muse is a "Smoky Top Coat" so I gave it a try over I am not affRED. Since the glitter is suspended in a sheer dark grey tinted base, Rock Muse really darkened I am not affRED and gave it a deeper hue. I got good glitter coverage in just one coat. I have seen a few bloggers give it a try by itself and achieve a pretty neat look with 3-4 coats.

NYC Black Elixr
2 coats

Black Elixr is a pretty cool black- it's got a jelly-like quality, yet covers completely in 2 coats. The first coat is very sheet, but coverage builds nicely.

NYC in Chinatown

NYC New York Color in a New York Color Minute Quick Dry Nail Polish in Chinatown
2 coats

This color is so so pretty! It's one of those deep dark bluish purple shade that's almost black inside, but outside in the sun, you can really see the eggplant shimmer come out.

As I usually do with these NYC shades, I got fabulous application in just two coats. I topped it with NYC Grand Central Station as my topcoat, and it dried super-fast.

NOTD: Sally Hansen Fuzzy Coat in Wool Lite

Sally Hansen Fuzzy Coat in Wool Lite (2 coats)
over NYC Chinatown

I figured the dark base color of NYC Chinatown would look cool with the pink and white Fuzzy Coat over it.... and I think it does. However, although there *are* both pink and white bar glitters in Wool Lite, once on the nail they really just look all the same color.

It's a bit hard to get even coverage of this Fuzzy Coat. I did 2 coats on all nails, and you can see that my ring finger (second from right) has more glitter concentration than the other fingers.

I applied 1 coat of NYC Grand Central Station and was surprised to see that it evened it out quite nicely.

NOTD: NYC Chinatown

NYC Chinatown

Today I'm wearing another shade from NYC's In a New York Color Minute line. I only needed two coats to completely cover my nail line with this shade. This deep plum with a silver shimmer is gorgeous. The shimmer is really only visible outdoors, indoors it is just a deep plum, but still pretty.

Topped with NYC Grand Central Station as topcoat, dry time was great. This line is just $1.72 at Walmart- quite a bargain!

NOTD: NYC Spring Street

NYC Spring Street
3 coats

Today I'm wearing another shade from NYC's In a New York Color Minute line. I did find that I needed three coats to completely cover my nail line with this shade- it's got a bit of a jelly quality to it. Coral is has been such a hot shade this spring and summer- love this one.

Topped with NYC Grand Central Station as topcoat, dry time was great. Yesterday I checked the price on this line at Walmart, and it's just $1.72. Such a bargain!

NOTD: NYC Lincoln Square Lavender

NYC Lincoln Square Lavender

Since I'm a big fan of using NYC Grand Central Station as a quick dry topcoat, I was excited to give some colors from the line (In a New York Color Minute) a try. Today I am wearing the second color in the group that was sent to me, and again, I was not disappointed.

The above swatch is two coats, topped with Grand Central Station. Dry time was great and I had great coverage in 2 coats. Since this line retails for around $2 and their shades are great quality, I'd recommend you give them a try. In my area, NYC is available at Walmart, Target, and CVS.

Seriously. I've seen this line at Walmart, Target, and CVS. If you haven't given the colors a try, you should. I'm very very impressed.

NOTD: Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Grandma

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Grandma

Last month at IMATS, one of the booths I was dying to visit was Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics. I had never tried their products, but was oh-so-obsessed with picking up a Lip Tar. And while I was there, like any good nail blogger, I purchased a few nail polish shades too.

The name of this shade makes me laugh- it is totally NOT a Grandma color! It's actually quite on-trend and gorgeous!

The above swatch is three coats, topped with my newest favorite topcoat, NYC Grand Central Station.

NOTD: Essie She's Picture Perfect

Essie She's Picture Perfect

I picked this one up from the 2012 Resort Collection because I thought that hidden shimmer was so pretty.

The above swatch is three coats, topped with a new (to me) top coat that might just be in the running for Best Value Ever- NYC Grand Central Station.

I think it was either $2 or $3 and I'm pretty darn impressed. It seemed to dry the polish as well as my beloved Seche Vite.

Have you tried it? What do you think?
