OPI Dark Side of the Mood

OPI Dark Side of the Mood
(4 coats)

from the Fifty Shades of Grey collection
Dark Side of the Mood is the darkest grey in the set (second from the left in the mini set). It's got an almost imperceptible shimmer in it that's only visible in direct sunlight, and even then, you need a macro shot to see it. Still, it's so pretty!

I found it to be quite watery and found myself with some sheer patches even after three careful coats. I added a fourth, but if you look closely at my ring finger above, you can still see a sheet spot near the cuticle. There was no chance of me adding a fifth coat, so I called it good. Only a nail-crazy person like me (or you since you are reading this blog!) would probably notice. :-)

I purchased my set for $21.95 at my local Ulta. I used a $3.50 off coupon to make it a bit more affordable, and although I think that was still pretty expensive for minis, I'm super glad OPI didn't stick a mini top coat in there.

SinfulColors Flirt With Hearts Collection

Today I've got four shades to show you from the new SinfulColors Valentine's Day collection, Flirt With Hearts.

 SinfulColors Dream On
(2 coats)

I am in love with this shade, which is described as "a brilliantly induced boysenberry". You can see a bit of my nail line, but I actually think it looks kind of neat. I do think that a third coat would have given opaque coverage. It dried a bit matte, so I left it that way and did not add a topcoat for this shot.

 SinfulColors Love Sprinkles
1 coat applied over Dream On

Love Sprinkles is a brand new, exclusive, limited-edition glitter topcoat, and I think it looks great over Dream On. It's a sheer base filled with heart-shaped glitter as well as smaller flecks of light pink and white glitter. I did a slight bit of fishing with my brush to get at least one heart on each nail, but it wasn't hard to get them out at all.

 SinfulColors Decadent
1 coat over white

Decadent is a sheer base filled with two sizes of metallic red glitter. I thought it would pair well with a white base. It actually dried nicely, without too much texture, so I didn't apply anything else on top of it.

 SinfulColors Pinky Glitter
3 coats

Pinky Glitter is a pink tinted sheer base filled with glitter that appears holo in sunlight- so pretty! Although I chose it wear it alone and more sheer, I have seen some other bloggers use this on top of a pink crème to give it a more opaque look. Either way, the glitter is quite eye catching.

There are a total of eight shades in the Flirt With Hearts collection, including classic reds and pinks, the glitters shown above, and a trendy teal. They are available for $1.99 at Walgreens, Rite Aid and other mass retailers in February 2015.

Revlon Transforming Effects in Matte Pearl Glaze

Revlon Transforming Effects in Matte Pearl Glaze
1 coat over red

Left: Original red mani      Right: one coat of Matte Pearl Glaze applied

Last week I was at Walgreens and saw a display with Revlon's Transforming Effects. Matte Pearl Glaze sparked my interest most out of the group, so I picked it up and yesterday's red mani seemed like a great base to try it over.

I LOVE it! It needed just one coat, and it dried super fast. This would be a great polish to have in your stash to re-fresh and change up a day or two-old mani.

OPI What's Your Point-settia? and 2014 Gwen Stafani Mini Holiday Stars set wrap-up

OPI What's Your Point-settia?
(2 coats)

Today I swatched the last shade in this set- What's Your Point-settia? and I loved it! It's a really pretty candy apple red. I love completing projects, so I am glad to finally have the 2014 Gwen Stafani Mini Holiday Stars set done. I think my favorite in the set was I Carol About You, but they are all pretty shades.

Here's a recap of the other three shades in the set.

OPI Red Fingers and Mistletoes

OPI I Carol About You

Essie Jiggle Hi Jiggle Low

Essie Jiggle Hi Jiggle Low (2 coats)
from the Winter 2014 collection

shade pic

Jiggle Hi Jiggle Low (such a strange name!) is gorgeous- it's a silver/gold stunner. I was subbing this week and had a fourth grader tell me, "Wow! Your nails look really expensive!" :-)

Don't mind the reddish skin, it was below freezing most days this week with no sun, but the sun came out for a bit yesterday and I dashed out in 30 degrees to grab a pic. My fingers were frozen!

It's *almost* a one-coater, but a second coat evens it out perfectly. Love love love this one.

OPI I Carol About You

I Carol About You
(3 coats)
from the 2014 Gwen Stefani Holiday collection

I Carol About You is another shade featured in the Mini Holiday Stars set. It's a really pretty vibrant purple with a subtle reddish pink shimmer that's really only visible in direct sun. Two coats gave me pretty good coverage, but I noticed there were some spots that looked like they needed a third coat so I did add one more coat.
