Revlon Parfumerie in Wintermint

Revlon Parfumerie in Wintermint
2 coats

Although I still had a bit of trouble with the handle like I did with China Flower, I thought this shade was gorgeous. I also had much better luck this time when I used my usual topcoat, NYC Grand Central Station, with this one- absolutely no problems at all, and it dried completely smooth.

I ended up wearing this for three days, and it wore pretty well. For this pic, I re-did the four fingers in the picture so I'd have fresh application to show. Removal wasn't too bad- I used my scrubby tub and found that I just had to scrub a bit extra to get that last bit of glitter off.

The smell, again, was faint, but still cool. By the third day I couldn't smell it at all.

Here's a shade pic where you can see the glitter a bit better.

Revlon Parfumerie in China Flower

Revlon Parfumerie in China Flower
2 coats

Before we chat too much about this shade, I want to note that it did not play well with my normal topcoat of choice, NYC Grand Central Station. I did two separate manis with two separate bottles of GCS, and both time the finish was very streaky. Almost like China Flower soaked up some of the top coat in places? So for this mani I applied a coat of another clear polish before I took the pic to even it back out.

Also note that the scent only appears when the polish is dry- when it is wet, or when you smell from the bottle, it just smells like regular nail polish. I saw a youtuber remark (while smelling the open bottle) that it was silly that they called these Perfumerie since they don't smell like anything other than stinky nail polish. I guess she hadn't tried it as a mani yet!

So the smell was nice- very faint, but if I had my hands up by my face, I could smell it. Fun!

As for the color- I LOVE it! It's very Spring and Summer appropriate and I think this would make a great pedi color too.

So if you have used this, what topcoat do you recommend?

One more thing- I had a bit of trouble with the design of the brush. Not actually the brush itself, but the handle.... see that big ball? That's what you have to hold while polishing, and it was awkward for me. Maybe after a few more times I'd get used to it, but it just wasn't comfortable and I didn't feel like I had control of the brush like I normally do.

Revlon Brazilian Beach

 Revlon Brazilian Beach
2 coats
(pic taken in shade because this one in the sun freaked out my camera!)
from the Haute Rocks Pebbled Nail Enamel Collection

Today I've got another shade from the Revlon Haute Rocks Pebbled Nail Enamel Collection. Last week I found this collection at my local CVS and chose a few shades to purchase. (Retail price was $5.99 each, but there was an ECB deal on them at the time to make them cheaper.)

These Limited Edition Collection shades contains a matte base packed with glitter. The display referred to "3D matte sparkle inspired by exotic pebbled beaches."

Although the other two shades I tried from this line had a tinted base that helped me achieve pretty complete coverage in two coats, Brazilian Beach's base is just barely tinted, so my natural nail did show through. One option to remedy this might be to use a nude shade as undies.

I did find that this one dried relatively smooth, as did Balinese Bay and Lana'i Lagoon.

Here's a macro shot of the glitter- I do think the different sizes of gold and copper glitters are gorgeous.

CoverGirl Glosstinis in #RavingHot

CoverGirl Glosstinis in #RavingHot
2 coats
from the Ready, Set Gorgeous display

Although CoverGirl does not have any info about this collection/display on their website, even under "New Releases", Nouveau Cheap does have some pics of the display. Quite a few products are featured- foundation, powder, concealer, and new shades of Smoochies, Glosstinis and Flamed Out Shadow Pencils.

I found the display at my local Walgreens and checked out the Glosstini section- the polishes are labeled either "Glossy Days" or "Glowing Nights" (the display says these glow under black lights). Since I haven't had a black light since I was a kid in the 70s, and am pretty sure I won't be at any clubs with one either, I decided to try one of the Glossy Days shades for just $2.99. (I also used a $1 coupon from the P&G coupon insert from the Sunday paper, making my cost $1.99.)

I just love these little bottles- at .11 fluid ounces, they are quite tiny, but I don't have any problem with the brush. I was super pleased with the color- Since it's a jelly, I've got some VNL showing, but I wasn't bothered because the shade is so bright and cheery.

Have you tried any of these shades? I'd love to see what the Glowing Nights shades do!

Sephora by OPI Paisley Attention to Me

Sephora by OPI Paisley Attention to Me (3 coats)

from the
Sephora by OPI Indian Summer Collection for Summer 2012

Paisley Attention to Me is a jelly-ish orange. I needed three coats to get good coverage. I thought this color was a great summer shade, and fit in well with the theme of the collection.
The Indian Summer mini set included:

Leighton Meester & Katie Holmes’ Met Ball nails with Dermelect’s Nail Care

Monday night both Leighton Meester and Katie Holmes wore nude nails on the red carpet at the 2014 Met Gala in New York City. Both star wore looks created by a team of manicurists led by Elle, color curator for Dermelect and top celebrity manicurist. To achieve this chic minimalist look, four of Dermelect’s nail care products were used.

For Leighton’s nails, the team started with two coats of Dermelect’s Makeover Ridge Filler, a peptide-infused base coat that instantly treats and masques unsightly ridges, followed by one coat of Dermelect’s Indulgence Nail Lacquer to achieve the nude effect.

Katie’s nails were prepped with Dermelect’s Launchpad Nail Strengthener, a peptide-infused anti-aging nail treatment that keeps nails strong while providing a protecting base coat under polish, followed by two coats of Dermelect’s Indulgence Nail Lacquer.

Both ladies’ looks were finished off with Dermelect’s High Maintenance Instant Nail Thickener, a fast-drying, super-glossy top coat that uses protein-peptide technology to instantly thicken nails up to 50% with one coat.

Makeover Ridge Filler ($18.00)
Nail Lacquer in Indulgence ($14.00)
Launchpad Nail Strengthener ($18.00)
High Maintenance Instant Nail Thickener ($16.00)

Dermelect products are now available at your local Ulta.

Sephora by OPI Seriously It's A Naan-Issue

Sephora by OPI Seriously It's A Naan-Issue (2 coats)

from the
Sephora by OPI Indian Summer Collection for Summer 2012

Seriously It's A Naan-Issue is an opaque deep purple. I got great coverage in two coats. Although I don't normally think of deep purple as a Summer color, I do think it fit in well with the theme of the collection.

Sephora by OPI I'm So Sari

Sephora by OPI I'm So Sari (2 coats)

from the
Sephora by OPI Indian Summer Collection for Summer 2012

Isn't this gorgeous? It's a turquoise base color with a dense glass fleck that makes it look somewhat foiled, finished with small hexagonal holographic glitter. Although the glass fleck gives it some texture, I got a smooth finish by adding just one coat of Gelous before I did my topcoat (NYC Grand Central Station). I've seen other bloggers do 3-4 coats, but I was satisfied with just 2.

CoverGirl XL Nail Gel in Overblown Orange

CoverGirl XL Nail Gel in Overblown Orange (2 coats)

Today I'm showing you the other shade I purchased from the CoverGirl display with the new "XL Nail Gel" polish.

Overblown Orange is a bit more opaque than Ample Apple, but still has a jelly quality. It's gorgeous and gave good coverage in two coats.

I continue to be impressed with this line- application was super easy, as was cleanup. It does have a nice thick look to it, although of course it's not actually gel...... It did dry nicely when I used my usual NYC Grand Central Station as a topcoat.

Pop Culture Cosmetics Wonderland over CoverGirl XL Gel in Ample Apple

Pop Culture Cosmetics Wonderland (1 coat)
over CoverGirl XL Gel in Ample Apple (2 coats)

shade picture

Today I'm wearing another of the three glitter toppers I won in March I in giveaway from Pop Culture Cosmetics.

I did just one coat of Wonderland (using a dabbing method) and got what I consider to be great coverage for a glitter topper. I waited a bit, applied a thick coat of Gelous to help smooth it out, and did my normal topcoat of NYC Grand Central Station and had a really smooth result. I do see some glitter shapes and colors that I didn't get in this application on these four fingers- there are also some black spades and clubs in the bottle in addition to the hearts and diamonds I did get in this pic- so this polish contains all four of the card suits.

Thanks to Pop Culture Cosmetics for an awesome giveaway- I'll be featuring the last shade soon!
