Diamond Cosmetics

*WARNING*
This post is picture heavy. Very picture heavy.

I wanted to get this posted yesterday, but due
to an all day power outage, I was unable to do so.

I've been hearing so many good things about Diamond Cosmetics,
I had to see for myself what all the fuss was about.

I received the following to try and review:

From L to R:
Nail Shine, Matte Topcoat, Extended Wear Topcoat,
Super Base, Starry Night, Cherry Tobacco,
Crushed Velvet, and Concrete Jungle

I wanted to have the chance to try all the goodies I received,
so I used only Diamond products in the following swatches.

All swatches are 1 coat base, 2 coats polish, 1 topcoat
unless otherwise indicated.

First up is Starry Night:

Starry Night is "a black polish with silver glitter".

Pinky-1 coat, all rest-2 coats

with Topcoat

Starry Night Matte

In the Matte version, you can really see the difference
between one coat and two.

In all honesty, I didn't like this color. I don't know exactly what I was expecting, but this wasn't it. The polish was extremely thick and application was a little difficult. I do however LOVE the shine the Topcoat gave it. Do you see how the sun glints off my index finger? I think that's just gorgeous!

Next up, Cherry Tobacco:

Cherry Tobacco is a "deep rich brown
shade with flecks of red shimmer".

Pinky-1 coat, all others-2 coats

with Topcoat and blurred to show the red and shimmer

Cherry Tobacco Matte

Again, Matte makes the difference
between one coat and two noticeable.

I know many people who have tried this color and loved it; I am not one of them. Maybe I'm just not meant for super dark, vampy style colors, I dunno. I have seen it on other people and thought it looked great (Sasha and Brooke), but not on me. Once again, the application was difficult as the polish was on the thick side. On the flip side though, the Topcoat brings out the beauty in the color.

Third is Crushed Velvet:

Crushed Velvet is an "elegant dark royal violet".

all fingers, 2 coats

with Topcoat

Crushed Velvet Matte

This color is gorgeous!!!!!!!! It is impossible to photograph the beauty that is this color. It is HYPER pigmented and thick, so one coat is almost all you need. I did two coats just to smooth out the jumpiness from my application. If I hadn't had one more color to try, this would have stayed on longer than just a couple of hours. I will be reapplying this color for a longer period of time in the near future. This is probably one of, if not the favorite of all the colors I tried.

Finally, Concrete Jungle:

Concrete Jungle is a "light grey creme".

all fingers 2 coats

with Topcoat

Concrete Jungle Matte

I saved the lightest color I received for last because
I planned to wear it through the weekend.

I'm glad I did.

I loved how this color looked, both Matte and with a topcoat.
With all the other colors, the Matte didn't work for me-at all. Concrete Jungle really looks like concrete when it's matte; and with Topcoat applied, it's gorgeous!

As I said, I left Concrete Jungle on over the weekend. What you see below is Concrete Jungle after 4 days of wear:

Hardly any tip wear!

The only casualty was to my thumbs:

one was caused by the never healing split thumbnail (caused by gel nails from 3 years ago) and the other was where the nail cracked and peeled the morning I took the picture.

Some general opinions of the Diamond Cosmetics polish line:
  • all the polishes were on the thicker side of what I am used to. Once I got more familiar with the product, it was easier for me to apply.
  • if using only Diamond products is what made the polish last for so long without chipping, I'll gladly do that in the future with all my polishes. There was hardly any chipping or wear on any of my fingers after 4 days of typical house abuse; dishes, showers, computer, cooking, playing, etc. so it is perfect for us busy moms!
  • all Diamond Cosmetics polishes are free from Toluene, Formaldehyde, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP) and Camphor
  • all quotes describing the polish above are from the provided press releases
Diamond Cosmetics polishes can be ordered via their website for $2.25. The Matte Topcoat is $3.50 and the Super Base, Extended Wear Topcoat, and Nail Shine are all $2.50 each.

No need to apologize for a picture heavy post! :)

I wish Starry Night showed the glitter better. I don't see any in the bottle or on your nails.

Concrete Jungle is an interesting color! Not sure if I'd wear it or not. I see a hint of bluishness kinda in the pictures you showed after 4 days of wear which I liked so maybe I would.
